Behind the Scenes 3 with Simon Darveau: The Road to Release: Hello inmates,Our team here at the studio has a big update on what to expect from Darwin Project in the coming months. In the last Behind the Scenes video, Creative Director Simon Darveau described the areas we would be focusing on to improve Darwin Project this summer. With summer well underway, we felt it was time for another video. This time, we broke down the upcoming content into a schedule that should give you a better idea of the amount of content coming in each new patch.Watch Behind the Scenes 3 with Simon Darveau: The Road to Release by clicking the image below:One of the biggest changes you’ll notice is that, in order to make deeper and more substantial updates, we are switching to a monthly patch schedule. For July, we tried focusing on a single content update, and the result was one of the highest quality patches we’ve delivered (it’s available on PC and Xbox One right now, by the way; you might want to download the new version while you watch the Behind the Scenes video).More time to iterate, test, and apply your feedback made a big difference while we built the July patch[www.scavengers.ca]. (The Tile Mapping system would not have been possible in a weekly patch). To maintain this level of quality moving forward, we’ll now drop major content updates on the third Tuesday of each month.Note: The Show Director Power and new tile release schedule will begin in August, as some of you have correctly pointed out that the July patch did not contain a Show Director Power. The August content update will include both the Duo leaderboards and quest system. As you can see, each monthly content update will contain at least the following:1 new Crafting Wheel item1 new Show Director Power or map tileNew cosmeticsFixes, balance, and polishSomething else that we learned from our July patch is that early feedback from you on these larger changes is essential. As we continue adding more Tools and Powers that will keep gameplay fresh, we’ll be checking in with you regularly, offering you chances to playtest new features before they are officially added, and making sure to look at all your feedback so that the features we introduce are the best they can be.If you haven’t heard much from us in the last few weeks, it’s because we’ve been taking a step back to get a better sense of where Darwin Project is at, where we want it to be at launch, and how we can best get there. We’ve said that we would launch Darwin Project out of Early Access when its systems meet our quality targets for fun factor, balancing, and polish. With that in mind, it’s time to talk about the estimated release window we shared last year. It’s clear to us right now that there is a lot of new content that we still want to add before launching out of Early Access. Simon mentions a lot of it in the video above. But more generally, we think that a lot of what players do in Darwin Project can feel better. Our team has lots of great ideas to enhance the overall Darwin Project experience, both by improving existing features and adding new ones, and it’s important for us to make those improvements before we’re comfortable removing the Early Access tag. So we won’t be launching Darwin Project out of Early Access this summer as we originally estimated. While we don’t have a new release window to share immediately, we’re confident that our new content schedule will allow us to make regular, substantial updates that will take Darwin Project to full launch before long.As always, we’re building this game with you, the Darwin Project inmates, and we want to hear all your feedback during our road to release and beyond.See you all in the arena!. Two Days to Early Access! Patch Notes 1.8: Hello inmates,There are just two days left before we release Darwin Project in Early Access! To tide you over in the meantime, we've published a new blog post about a big update to the Spectator Interactions feature, a new Open Beta Highlights video, as well as the Early Access patch notes.Spectator Interactions Cross-Livestream Update: http://www.scavengers.ca/cross-livestream-spectator-interactions/Open Beta Highlights video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLVyQVcax_APatch notes 1.8: http://www.scavengers.ca/changelog/patch-notes-1-8/See you in the arena starting this Friday, March 9, at 3 PM EST!- The Scavengers Team. Summary of the Changes from April 24-30: Hello inmates,Last week was a very eventful one with the deployment of our very exciting customization update, and if you haven’t been tuned to our social media channels, you might’ve missed a few changes that happened in the form of hotfixes throughout the week. This post is meant to get you caught up before we announce what’s coming in the next patch! We published patch notes 1.9[www.scavengers.ca] on Friday, April 20, aiming to push the update itself on Tuesday the 24th. While these notes contained improvements that had been frequently requested by the community, such as the ability to earn Fans in different game modes and to unlock new cosmetic items, not all changes were met with the same enthusiasm. Darwin Project players were concerned about the Show Director power targeting update and how it would severely limit Show Director freedom. After reading this feedback on Discord and our other social media channels, we reacted swiftly and tweaked the mandatory votes to affect only Show Directors with a rating of 3 stars or less before pushing the patch. This change has since been updated in the patch notes. An unexpected issue that occurred right after we deployed patch 1.9 on Steam was that zones would not close properly. If you were online on Tuesday afternoon, you might’ve played a few matches that lasted way longer than they should as a result! This technical issue was caused by a huge amount of vote requests sent to Twitch due to automatic zone closures then prompting an audience vote via the Spectator Interactions extension. We improved zone closures in a hotfix on April 25 and also fixed a small texture issue with the Founder’s Pack Legendary sets. By then we’d read even more feedback, especially from new players who discovered Darwin Project when it became free to play on Steam just days before, and we identified another trend that we felt was too often leading to unpleasant social experiences in-game: the Show Director Invincibility power. We decided to remove it as part of April 25’s update instead of waiting until the next patch to try to determine, as soon as we could, whether this would have a positive effect for both contestants and Show Directors. And so far, it looks like it might. Right now a second Warm Up power replaces Invincibility, but we’re looking forward to telling you about some new ways Show Directors will be able to spice up Darwin Project matches soon.On April 26, we definitively fixed the zone closing issue by undoing the change requiring zone closures to be voted on by the audience. The same hotfix removed the AI Show Director, which, in the form it took last week, didn’t create as many exciting moments as we expected. We’re not opposed to potentially bringing those systems back in the future, but only if we’re able to improve them in a way we’re confident will make Darwin Project more fun. Finally, this update also addressed an issue where equipping cosmetic items would affect both the male and female character at the same time.Later in the day on April 26, we disabled Show Director ratings in Private Matches. This one’s pretty straightforward: the rating should reflect how skilled Show Directors are at making Darwin Project matches more fun, and Private Matches with friends are not the right environment to accurately measure this.So that was our week. Whew! Though perhaps the biggest news for our Discord community was yesterday’s introduction of the new #fashion-project channel, where all manner of elegant and not-so-elegant outfits are being shown off! Our Discord server now counts over 21,000 members, and if you haven’t joined yet, now’s a good time: https://discord.gg/darwinOn behalf of the whole team, thanks for continuously sharing your feedback with us across all our different channels. We’ve said from the start that we’re building this game hand in hand with our community, and that’s not about to stop just because there are a lot more of you!Stay tuned for patch notes 1.10! Especially you, Show Directors.See you in the arena!- The Scavengers Team.
